Scrambling kit list
Listed below are the items you should bring, with some recommendations, so that you have a comfortable day out whatever the weather.
Climbing equipment
Please bring any of your own climbing equipment including helmet along for scrambling. As long as it’s in safe working order. If you need to borrow a piece of safety equipment, please mention via email and we can arrange this.

Rucksack - around 30-35 litres in size is ideal

Waterproof jacket - e.g. gore-tex fabric or similar. They are light enough that they can be rolled up and kept at the bottom of a rucksack in case of a shower. The weather is changeable in the UK mountains and this is essential to have.
Waterproof trousers – again these can be rolled up and kept at the bottom of your rucksack just in case.
Spare layer in a dry bag – having a spare thin jacket or fleece which packs down small, kept in a drybag or in a plastic bag, is very important in case you get cold. Jackets with synthetic insulation cope well in any weather. Down jackets can be very warm, but do not cope well if it rains.

Water bottle - around 1 litre is good

Food for the day - having a mix of items like bars/cereal bars which are quick to eat, which can be kept in a pocket and snacked on during a scramble, and a more substantial sandwich/wrap is a good combination to power you through the day. Taking some extra food as a just in case.

Footwear – there is some personal choice here. Walking boots are a good choice for scrambling year round, being waterproof with a stiff sole, ankle support and good grip on hillsides. Approach shoes like the ones made by Scarpa or La Sportiva can be good but are often not waterproof. Please MAKE SURE your footwear has good tread on the sole - this is very important for scrambling. A pair of worn-out boots is unsafe.

Warm hat & gloves – useful at any time of year if the weather changes
Mobile phone fully charged – useful in emergency
Other kit to consider:
-
Suncream & sunglasses
-
Any medication you might need
-
Blister plasters if you often use them
