Hillwalking kit list
Listed below are the items you should bring, with some recommendations, so that you have a comfortable day out whatever the weather.

Rucksack - around 25-30 litres in size is ideal

Waterproof jacket - e.g. gore-tex fabric or similar. The weather is changeable in the UK mountains and this is essential to have.
Waterproof trousers – these can be rolled up and kept in your rucksack just in case.
Spare layer in a dry bag – having a spare thin jacket or fleece which packs down small, kept in a drybag or in a plastic bag, is very important in case you get cold. Jackets with synthetic insulation cope well in any weather. Down jackets can be very warm, but do not cope well if it rains.

Water bottle - around 1 litre is appropriate for most of the year. In the summer you may want to carry more.

Food for the day - having a mix of foods like bars/cereal bars which are quick to eat, which can be kept in a pocket, and a more substantial sandwich/wrap to have at a lunch stop, is a good combination to power you through the day. Taking some extra food as a just in case. If you're prone to a drop in blood sugar levels sometimes, bringing a few sweets is a good idea (and a nice reward for reaching the top!).

Footwear – Walking boots that are waterproof, providing ankle support and good grip. Please MAKE SURE your footwear has good tread on the sole - this is important for hillwalking. A pair of worn-out boots can make a slip or accident more likely.

Warm hat & gloves – useful at any time of year if the weather changes
Mobile phone fully charged – useful in emergency
Other kit to consider:

Suncream & sunglasses
-
Cap
-
Any medication you might need
-
Blister plasters (e.g. compeed)
-
Hiking/trekking poles
